Common Snipe in the Wiesenkönigreich Zell am See

The common snipe is one of Salzburg's rarest breeding birds. One breeding pair ws observed regularly inside Zeller See nature sanctuary until the year 2000. But by 2006, this particular population was officially declared extinxt. The survey of meadow birds conducted by the Haus der Natur in 2012 and 2013 only recorded a breeding population in the Flachgau region.

High moisture levels in the ground, silty areas, watery depressions, srub removal and less disruption from pets might well help this species.

Nonetheless, this nature sanctuary is an important resting area of migrating common snipe.
